2024 Week 2: I Quit
An eventful week.
1. I fell sick, thereby failing one of my new year's resolutions right off the bat. I had headache, bodyaches, nausea and vomitting, which prompted a fresh downward spiral about my health. To find out if I am truly dying, or merely disintegrating from old age, I did a blood test at the polyclinic. Results will be out on Wednesday.
2. I quit my job at the bookstore. I don't dislike it, but lately I've started to long for the healthful, sunlit days "way back when" I was doing food delivery. At some point I will probably look for a real job, but my immediate plan is to cycle in the mornings and read/study in the afternoons, to nurse body and mind back to health.
3. Re: studying, I have built up a small syllabus of philosophy and history/politics. I now have 2 books on anarchism by Peter Kropotkin and Ruth Kinna, Tim Marshall's Prisoners of Geography, and Fernand Braudel's A History of Civilizations, and a Diogenes book to add to my Montaigne, Liang Qichao, Lin Yutang and Walter Benjamin books. I'm itching to use my brain, that much is clear.
4. It has been a year and a week since Mel died.
5. Have been cooking regularly, e.g. below butter chicken, tzatziki and pitas. Also, I set up a nice big dining table and chairs outside the house and we have been eating alfresco meals while the weather is nice.
6. Turtle has been stealing cat food, so we went to IKEA and bought a Variera shelf to raise Miaou's food from her reach.
7. I bought these mirrors from a factory in AMK for my home yoga studio. While installing them we realised the walls in our house are not merely slanted, but CURVED. I also got bookshelves but no picture now because they're too messy.
8. We moved our beds together and it's nice, although I do not think I sleep so well like this... I hope my sleep improves. Meanwhile, I love having my writing desk at the (new! white!) window.
It's been very much a New Year, New Me sort of week, because the penultimate bunny, Jill, has checked out and I finally have my room to myself again. In fact I'm in the mood for a total life re-org.

Sun: went to work, fell sick, spent the evening puking. Made Picard veggies for post-puke supper and they were fabulous.
Mon: cleaned my room, made butter chicken etc. for lunch, went to polyclinic. More Picard - lentil and zucchini curry this time - for dinner. Ridiculously tasty. What is this crazy French frozen food brand?!
Tue: constipated; ate oatmeal for breakfast. Power went out. Restored power after a trip to HDB. Ate a random spaghetti lunch then went for blood test. Read Anna Karenina. Sent Jill home, ate Pepper Lunch, went to IKEA.
Wed: alfresco breakfast! Did mini run. Went to Cheng San hawker centre with dad, plus door shop and mirror factory. Installed mirrors. Bookshelves arrived. Dinner at Jon's parents'.
Thu: oatmeal alfresco. Cycled around the free book swap shelves in Bishan and got some really good finds including Robert A Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Stranger in a Strange Land! Plus The Picture of Dorian Gray, which Jon wants to read. Leftovers for lunch, then 2-6 work. Took myself out to dinner (read Anna Karenina while eating Filet-O-Fish meal) then shopping before going home.
Fri: tried to get the $3 Paylah at the minimart but failed. Started feeling shaky and lousy. Made myself go for a short run, even though it was raining, but it didn't help; I came back crying and picking a fight with Jon. Picard vegetables in soup for lunch. 2-6pm work. Came home and made Japanese curry with Jon, it was nice to eat on a cool night. Watched some Monsters Inc. and fell asleep.
Sat: sun out. Did 2 Roo jobs after breakfast; also dumped my used book collection as they are no longer moving on Carousell. Lunch was salmon belly, the last of the Picard veg, and soba noodles. Spent the day moving pet supplies to the outside of the house so as to free up my room. Went to Thomson Plaza for dinner but evening spoilt by stabbing feeling in stomach (gas).
