2024 Week 47: Capybaras & Dominatrices

Went to Bangkok over the weekend with 2 main Action Items. The first was to see capybaras at Little Zoo Garden, which turned out to have a lot of other creatures too. Please enjoy the photos.

The other Action Item was to PARTY!!~ at Bangkok Fetish Weekend. Pictures from that weekend are incriminating and NSFW so I will leave you with just a photo of myself with Christmas Penis and a sketch.

There were a few high-profile Asian mistresses (i.e. dominatrices) in attendance. It was my first time seeing them in the wild and I really enjoyed observing and talking to them.

Being a mistress seems to be a cross between artist/influencer/sex worker. Well, okay, there isn't any actual sex, but the work (the "play sessions") do entail fulfilling sexual fetishes/fantasies. It seems a lot more difficult and complex than sex work however.

Many clients ("subs") want to be dominated not just in the bedroom but also emotionally, mentally, financially etc. So there's a level of competency in order to be a successful and sought-after mistress. You need to be good at gauging what your clients need, plus a strong stomach for delivering whatever tortures tickle their fancy. At the same time you need to be really convincing as a dominatrix as opposed to just acting like one. Also, some of these so-called submissives are... anything but. There are clients (high-flying rich white men, obvs) with no compunctions about complaining that you are not good enough to be a domme.

In addition to your BDSM competencies, a successful mistress also has to engage in a whole lot of dressing up, image-making and social media management. Basically, you're a public figure and community influencer. A good photographer is a must. Not just someone who knows how to shoot your best side, but also who can to make your erotica as artistic as possible. This is important for the cat-and-mouse game you have to play with social media platforms. Getting reported, having your content deleted, getting banned outright - all in a day's work.

Public appearances are also a major part of the work, at least if you want to go pro. There's an entire circuit of fetish events around the world and it is obligatory to put in appearances. Lots of swanning around in your best outfits, being seen, and most importantly networking with (potential) clients with your mistress persona on. What was a weekend lark for the rest of us was practically a trade show for the pros.

I will now end this segment with a few random quotes from mistresses:

• On her last break from work: "I spent the whole time just being vanilla and eating good food." 
• Upon learning that I am not a pro like her: "Ahh, you are lifestyle. That is nice." (wistful smile)
• When asked if she has any real passion for her work: "No, I'm only doing it to fund my art." 

The rest of the time was spent being stuck in Bangkok traffic and walking around places like Platinum Mall and Pratunam Market and Siam Square. The shopping was underwhelming, as was most of the food we ate... It's saying something when the standout of the trip was you tiao at the 24 hour McDonald at Big C Rajdamri.

Must-do's next time: Khlong Toei slum (hopefully we'll catch it before it turns into a monstrous integrated resort) and Pathum Wananurak Park (stumbled upon it trying to cut across to Platinum Mall, empty except for 2 farangs and 4 schoolkids).

I think Bangkok would be more likeable if its locals were bigger assholes. I'm thinking of the peddlers in Hoi An who verbally abuse tourists for declining their wares; after the initial brute shock, it's actually nice to see that kind of spirit. The Thais are far too nice. Everyone was overly accommodating to tourists and foreign money, to the point of being doormats. Come on Thai people, stop letting the Mainland Chinese run Bangkok!
