2024 Week 31: The Owl & the Pussycat

^ Finally went to Woodlands for Tamiya car racing with Joel and Marjie after 1 year. The cars were cuter than expected, but they were also harder than expected to put together and race. I think the build took like 2 hours? But the entire trip up north was fun and 888 Plaza has a super good neighbourhood vibe.

MON: worked on Pets Hideout, saw doctor, yoga

TUE: counselling, worked on book, yoga

WED: lunch with dad at Albert St, hung out at Bras Basah Complex & NLB

THU: Hanna check in, meeting with Nadia, yoga

FRI: gym, NVC at Beyond, dinner and Tamiya with Joel and Marjie!

SAT: return Jill, lunch at Navarisi (pic above; highly recommended), Workers Make Possible manifesto thing, dinner at Fulton (tired & weepy)

SUN: (cried) breakfast at Coffee Bean then groceries, salmon & salad lunch, catch up with Van

Despite all the fun stuff we did, this week wasn't all that great emotionally. I guess the lowlight was learning that home pet boarding is technically illegal and it's not even possible to get a license. I'm not too concerned about threats like getting reported, but it does set limits on how far I can take this business model (e.g. I cannot be a corporate sponsor with an animal charity that works with AVS).

Curveballs, while distressing, can be good for you ultimately. This one made me face up to the secret hopes and dreams I had for my microbusiness and my identity as a worker. Take a good hard look at them. I actually wanted it to be a commercial success, because that's the metric that's been hammered into my brain and I can't seem to get rid of. Out of habit I must have equated business success with self-worth again. It's so egotistic and serious, I hate it.

Anyway. For August I'll just take time off Pets Hideout matters. Need to focus on the book anyway.
