2023 WEEK 13: Mental Health 0/10
Today is the day we fly.
I don't know why but this 2-month trip has made me go quite insane. I haven't been sleeping much the past few weeks, and although I've been eating a lot, I have been losing weight. Disturbing. The worst of it is the monkey brain that won't stop chattering in anticipation. It brings out the Doomsday Prepper in me - we might as well be going to Sub-Saharan Africa.
In a bid to get more free time in the last week, I changed my work hours to 2 x 8-hour shifts on Wednesday and Saturday, instead of the usual 4 x 4-hour shifts. Amazingly I didn't feel wiped out at all, so I might continue with this when I get back. It's so much nicer to work 2 days/week instead of 4.
As for the remaining 5 days:
On Monday we went for yoga, then read at Market St hawker centre, then went for the pub quiz. We were among the top scorers but died at the Stick Or Bust round because (once again) we second-guessed our original answers. Went for consolation McDonald's ice cream.
On Tuesday we went to IKEA with my dad to eat the Ramadan specials and buy a thermos flask. I can't believe it's only $10 - so happy with it!!
On Thursday Jon and I went to try Hjh Maimunah, finally. Actually I found the dishes rather too sweet - same issue at Rumah Makan Minang. My favourite is still Sari Ratu, then maybe followed by Coba Coba. We sat at PLQ 7-11 reading/writing and then went home.
Friday was my mum's birthday lunch at The Ship. It was also the day I REALLY went crazy cleaning the house and I got genuinely upset that our house even required cleaning.
On Sunday our housesitter arrived! We meant to give him the air mattress but realised it had a leak in the morning, so I bought something I've always wanted: a fold-up mattress from Seahorse. We all went out for dinner with my parents and then Jon and I finished The Banshees of Inisherin. <3 Jenny
I worried a lot about it being awkward/uncomfortable, but so far it's been all right having a lodger in the house. Of course our sitter has a super high EQ so maybe he's not a representative sample... but I'd like to try renting out a room for a short while.
The most relaxing times this week have been when I was reading Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I love Robert Louis Stevenson's writing and have decided to read all of his work. Imagine how happy I was when I passed by the free book shelf at the library and found a copy of Kidnapped!
